Patients with substance use disorder are frequently hospitalized with complications from the condition, yet do not receive treatment for their underlying disease. This is a missed opportunity that increases patients leaving against medical advice and increases the risk of future overdose. Hospitalizations are an ideal opportunity to start effective medication treatment for addiction and connect patients to ongoing outpatient services.
Prenatal Care
Pregnancy is a particularly unique time when many patients feel highly motivated to reduce risks of drug use. However, pregnant women face unique challenges in their paths to recovery, including profound stigma around pregnancy and drug use, fear of child protective services, and concerns about neonatal abstinence syndrome.Â
We integrate MAT access throughout all hospital services by providing hospitals the tools they need to start and maintain patients on buprenorphine or methadone during hospitalizations for any condition, be it medical, surgical, or obstetric.
